Birthday Box
At our birthday celebrations, we believe every child is unique! That's why we ask each birthday child to fill out our "All About Me" form. This helps us craft a truly special and personalized experience tailored just for them, ensuring their day is filled with joy and unforgettable memories. Below are items that are included for all birthdays.
Something to read
Stephen King once said, "Books are uniquely portable magic." We believe that every child should have access to this magic. During difficult times, imagination can serve as a liferaft. Books are beneficial for the mind and soul, which are especially important for children in need.
Something they need
During the difficult transition to a shelter, families often have to leave behind belongings that are important to their children. Our "something they need" section provides them with the chance to request replacements for essential items, ensuring they can feel a sense of normalcy during this challenging time.
Something to share
The families we encounter are often made up of multiple members. "Something to Share" is a gift that can be enjoyed with siblings, parents, or friends. This empowers children by allowing them to share with their peers while also providing entertaining activities or games to enjoy.
Something to wear
Understanding how important it is to have access to clothing, especially new garments that can make someone feel special and valued. While shelters provide used clothing, having something new to call their own can truly uplift their spirits and provide a sense of ownership and dignity.
Something they want
Birthdays are a special time to celebrate an individual. Each birthday is unique to the child, and we always ask them what they really want as a gift. We make every effort to fulfill their wish, and if possible, we give the gift to the parent so that they can give it to their child. This empowers the parent and includes them in the celebration.
Kisses from Heaven
Every month, we make it a special point to honor the birthday of a child who has passed away. Each birthday box or party includes a box of kisses along with a heartfelt card, letting them know who shares a birthday month with them in Heaven.
Classroom Treats
Schools allow kids to bring in snacks, cupcakes, or cakes for their birthday to share with their class. In order to make our shelter kids feel included, we find out how many kids are in their class so they can bring a treat to share with their classmates. This is our way of extending their birthday celebration with their peers.
Party Favors
Kids anticipate party favors when they attend a friend's party, so we make sure to continue that tradition for the children in shelters. Party favors are included in the party package so the birthday kid can pass out to their friends.
